Also, maiming makes them an overall drag on their family. So, not only would the shitstain suffer the consequences of signing onto a Nazi movement, but their family would be burdened by it too. Also, it would cause that maimed person to serve as a warning to other would-be shitstains: let this serve as a warning about what happens when you sign on. It's not just about the maiming, its about sending a message.

The Vietkong knew this and employed this mentality well in Vietnam.
