Went to [redacted cafe] for a cocktail and they had a staff member dressed like a nazi, red swastika arm band and all. I raised issue and I think they hid until we left.

Glad you raised issue. Choices come with consequences.

Man some people really don't know how to make good choices.

Reminds me of the racist bar in Ivanhoe that gained traction over at the other place...

Yeah....Chances are that wasn't a costume

It looked pretty home made. It was a younger person and kinda petite so I tried to politely tell them they shouldn't be wearing that. I was also concerned that if they're just an idiot, someone more punk rock than me might hit them with a brick. I just finished up and left.

What the hell… I fail to understand the thought process. Even if it was due to Halloween they should know that’s a no go

[–] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 3 points 4 days ago

Mmmm , perhaps not a good choice

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

maybe the costumes of past Halloweens were just as terrifying and offensive to the people then, us now, we just don't believe in the devil or ghosts anymore

iow, it's meant to be offensive scary , not something we are meant to agree with

but we live now and people don't understand halloween anymore, so it's definitely inappropriate

You're absolutely right about the costumes. It's one of the reasons I have an issue with the whole trick or treat thing. The watering down of something serious and important into flimsy plastic costumes and candy.

If interested, you might want to read up on the Mari Llwd - thoroughly pagan, intended to terrify, and also intended to remind the power-holders that the great unwashed also held power over them and the means of production. Even if that power was confined to just one day a year. Christianity turned the Mari Llwd into hobby horses and rocking horses, yet the folksong Widdicombe Fair still reminds us of some of it's original power and might.

There used to be the lore that if a person saw Satan they would literally die of fright.
