Even China's facial recognition is wrong like 20-30% of the time

This is going to have so many false positives...

This is going to have so many false positives…

That's the idea.

It’s the smartphone version of “I smelled marijuana,” bet there’s a setting to double tap a button and flag an offending person regardless of documentation.

And China doesn't have any black people, for whom facial rec is notoriously inaccurate.

Oh, yeah, false positives all over the place.

If you get ensnared by this little scheme, make the best of it. Keep track of everything that happens during your detainment, down to the slightest inconvenience, because you are going to blow that up when you get your case into a courtroom. Make these Sociopathic Oligarchs fund your (hopefully early) retirement.

The first line kinda ignores the minorities in China. It's mostly Han so the minorities suffer similar discrimination there due to lack of representation or excessive regional enforcement

I'm not saying that China doesn't have its own forms of racism and discrimination, I was just pointing out that studies have shown that facial recognition systems are far less accurate with black people, which America has in far higher numbers than China. If there are already going to be false positives for a country like China, it's going to be much higher in America, where we have a population segment that doesn't really exist in China, which has a notorious poor accuracy for facial rec.

Might wanna be careful with those genie wishes, in context.

Is something like that is that wrong it cannot be admissible in court.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 9 points 3 days ago

I'm not sure why you think the courts would be involved.

[–] Klowner@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Maybe that's part of why they don't want any of these people to step foot in court

[–] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Potentially, but they have been detaining people before they can see a court and deporting them immediately, they don't care.
