Modern Italy has a long history of military failures. This is often mocked.

Notably, in WW1, a war usually mourned as a horrific tragedy all around, Italy's failures are particularly laughed at, albeit in a shocked, gallows humor kind of way. Another Battle of the Isonzo, anyone?
