Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Just in case anyone's not sure how to find cool games on Steam:

  1. Visit Woke Content Detector
  2. Click "Not Recommended"
  3. Enjoy :)

For added entertainment, they sometimes Don't Get It and what they say is "subtle" is, in fact, right in your face.

e.g. they say Monster Hunter Wilds is "subtly pro-climate action" which is like saying a tungsten cube is "slightly hefty" or Life Is Strange is "a little bit gay"

(Tagged for NSFW for sexual content in review descriptions.)

Assassin's creed liberation: The player character is an improbable WOC assassin who fights to free slaves in French Louisiana.

As opposed to the totally realistic depiction of white male assassins in the franchise.

What white males? The arab, the native american, the italian, the greek and egyptian?

oh, the one that was set in victorian england? Also the many others I missed because I stopped giving a shit after 3 and they ran all their goodwill into the ground?

I love how murican white racism is just xenophobia. "White? But that person with a #FDEFE5 skin is from a Mediterranean country!!!!"

I'm not american. Italians and other south Europeans/Mediterraneans were considered non-white and discriminated in the past; if you are against "wokeness" than you should also be against considering Italians as white, since they are accepted due to trends of social progress and integration. Thus, Mediterraneans should be considered persons of colour for DEI non DEI purposes.

I do not care if they are or are not white, do not harbor ill will towards them, and don't consider myself particularly white either (ethnic Turk). I do want to deny people who seek to gain cachet by pretending to be part of a "better" (their perspective, not mine) race to further their own social standing, because I want them to realise these systems and viewpoints oppress others, and people like them.

Also; if Mediterraneans from southern europe are considered white, why not Mediterraneans from northern africa? Those parts of the coasts of the Mediterranean were also in the roman/etc empires, what's wrong with those places? Why do they not get to share in the legacy of rome and western civilization?

Because the whole discrimination/racism thing is moronic and not rooted in rationality? I get where you're coming from but they don't care at all.

Not sure I get the point of your comment but Ezio is white, yes. If I gave enough of a fuck I'd argue that Alexios is, too. There are also like 3 english dudes, and the viking.
