I really wish cloaks would come back. Who doesn't want to wear a blanket on their back that you can wrap up on whenever you want?

Why not just go to a tailor and have a nice cloak made?

Mine is wonderful. I do enjoy it. It just isn't this wonderful.

I'm a man, and I feel like people judge men for wearing "weird" clothing more often. However, I think I could pull it off. I'm a fairly attractive guy with long hair, and I got complimented for my ponytail the other day, and men just don't get compliments usually, so going with something more unique is nice.

I'll look into it.

Edit: looking at stuff, a ruana might be perfect. It's more versitile than just a cloak that can only really be worn one way.

Fuck gender norms!

Men will never be hot in cloaks again until they make it happen!

Also wear tighter pants >:3

I agree with everything except the pants. I do like the looks, but they're not comfortable. Lol. I don't wear my tighter pants often. I'm leaning more towards kilt personally.

Hell yeah, i couldn't really do tight jeans, but sweatpants and leggings feel great even with the parts in the way IMO

Don't mind me I just want to see more butts in public :p

Mens fashion largely isn't.

I personally avoid complimenting men because i can't smile in public without getting creeped on¹ but I wouldn't usually because your entire gender shares three god damn outfits. Dress the fuck up. I've had plenty of straight and bi friends, and they all appreciated their guys in historical costumes or cosplay. Just wear the damn cape.

¹i fucking hate all of you for that. Every time I see one kicked in the balls I smile.

It pisses me off SO MUCH that men's "fashion" is "shirt, t-shirt, jumper, jeans, sneakers, fuck off".

I spent years trying to get myself some cool, tall boots. Finally found them at a second hand. About a year later managed to identify the company that made them, another year later found the exact model... in their women's boots category*. Because such boots just do not exist for men.

I had to get a tailor to make my coat, because what I wanted, again, does not exist in the men's "fashion" world. Or, well, it does - on Temu, and in "goth fashion" stores, where it's all cheap, crap, plastic, made with slave labour, and extremely tacky.

* I'm still rocking them whenever I can, because fuck that noise.

Anything not made by your local tailor is slave labor. Rule one of fashion supply lines.

Also the fabric your tailor uses is made by slaves. There isn't another kind, except maybe some dupont-ass bullshit that makes three gallons of forever-waste per sqft and costs 1000$/meter (but it is hydrophobic, stain proof, knife proof, bullet resistant)

Start off with a poncho. You'll feel weird for a bit but then will notice that nobody gives a shit, actually. Switch to a cloak and the same will happen.

Fun fact: I saw a dude rocking a cloak about a month ago!

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

once me make cloaks popular again, we can see this conversation happen in reverse after awhile

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hooded cloak, cape cloak, rakish hip cloak or, as a bit of a rebel, duster?

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

If I were to get one, I'd probably go for a hooded cloak or a cape cloak. Something that you can wrap around you, but also you can open up if it's too hot.

Alternatively, I've thought about getting a great kilt. It's versitile and can be used as anything from just a kilt to a cloak, and even as a tent. (Nice) kilts are already expensive though. It looks like a great kilt runs you around $400 minimum, maybe like $300 buying the fabric directly (which I think is pretty much all a great kilt is anyway).
