So, I just got permabanned from the London Ontario subreddit for criticizing the police. The cited rule was trolling, but my comment was on-topic for the post and when I pointed that out, I was muted by the mods. This is the second Ontario subreddit to ban or mute me for critizing the police or criminal system now, and it's emblematic of the concerning trend of right-wing promotion on Reddit in general. A similar thing happened on the Ontario subreddit weeks ago when I was the only pro-trans commentor on a post and the comment deleted for calling a fascist a fascist ("name-calling").

I'm posting this here in case there are leftists or queer folks who are similarly punished for expressing their views on that site and question if they're actually breaking rules. If you're questioning switching off of it because it feels hostile, you are not making things up.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I wanted to reply to this for a long time but I just kept forgetting.

I would need to speak with actual lawyers and people like that to make a real system other than what I have in my mind... but to keep things short, if a public servant, such as a police officer or soldier (enlisted or officer, but officers would be held to a much higher standard) does something major such as murder or human trafficking and does so with the expectation that he will get off on the charges due to him 'doing his job', then that would be treated very different than if he was doing a crime under 'normal' circumstances. A police officer selling drugs on the side for money should not be treated as anything other than a regular crime. Because I doubt there is any mechanism for them to claim 'I was just doing my job!'

For the situation you mentioned Canadian police and starlight tours... are they doing it with the full belief that their position as police will protect them? Then yes, fuck em'. Life in prison at least, and harsher terms than if a normal civilian did it.

For soldiers committing war crimes, such as the numerous examples by the IDF that need no mention here... as far as I am concerned, I wouldn't mind if they put them feet first into a woodchipper. Officers who order that shit or purposefully allow their enlisted men to do that shit would suffer even worse reprecussions. I don't just mean the death penalty for the officer, but also a lot of their properties taken away, meaning their immediate family would also be harmed... that is something that MUST be on their minds if they decide to do that shit.

As for commanders and high ranking officers and politicians who do this shit? Yeah, Netenyahu has warrants out for his arrest. But I would say that it needs to go farther, his entire cabinet needs to be wanted AND I wouldn't be above putting bounties on their heads if they decide to evade capture.
