As a real life gay person, I'm not offended. I've seen and experienced real hate and I'm not seeing it here.
Let's break it all down:
Not offensive. He's not using "gay" in this comment to discriminate against anybody or to spread hate. He's using the term "gay" in a way that was very, very common at the time; using "gay" to mean "stupid". This is also not directed to a person or group of people.
Okay, and?
Not offensive, this is an attempt at a joke and he's not using "gay" in the pejorative sense.
Many, many people who used the f-slur used it to spread real hate - this is not one of those instances.
Not offensive, though I'm not a fan of people using sweeping generalizations accusing people of being "gay", especially in place of other terms to describe people or things that they don't like.
I don't feel he's being completely serious and he seems to be using "gay" to mean "things I don't like" again, but not referring to disliking gay people specifically. He's joking, though of course it isn't funny and it is confusing without the relevant context included by this article. Why did they fail to include the context in this instance?
This dude clearly liked engaging in "gay antics" and playing "gay chicken" with the men he served with. He's probably at least somewhat interested in the male body - otherwise he wouldn't be playing chicken with his mates and openly sharing these experiences and his intentions to do it more.
I was hoping that this article would blow my mind, but this is just another hit piece. Do I approve of anybody using the f-slur or using the term "gay" in these ways? No, I don't agree with these practices, but I don't see any bad intentions or disapproval of people being gay from these comments.
Its more psyop outrage bullshit. The worst part is that you dont know if its coming from the republican side or the DNC. Schumer really wants his AIPAC, no healthcare candidate to win.
