He's English.
He didn't say he's a traitor. He just said "I've got to stay on team. I'm a lightsaber guy." That doesn't come across to me as being forced to choose a team and not being able to be on both. Comes across to me that he just likes Star Wars way more and doesn't have the same passion for Star Trek that he does for Star Wars. A lot of artists pick projects that they have passion for. If he doesn't have that same love for Star Trek then I can't begrudge him for not wanting to be a part of it. Especially when the rest of the article is him talking good things about Trek and saying how Star Wars can learn from it.
Like I'd say the same thing about Lord of the Rings vs Forgotten Realms. I have zero interest in Lord of the Rings but a lot in Forgotten Realms. I don't think Forgotten Realms is inherently better overall. I just like it more and connect with it more. I don't want to associate with Lord of the Rings because I just don't connect with it on that way. I can, however, recognize the great things that it does and take inspiration from that. I think that's what Boyega is doing here considering he praises Star Trek while just saying he doesn't want to be part of it.
