I just recently realised how horrendous "no knife zones" in the Berlins public transport are. I literally cannot transport my straight razor to a honing shop via public transport without committing a crime and have to pay shipping via DHL within the city instead.

Man, that is a pain. Do they screen people?

[–] ItTakesTwo@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

They can by law but I can't remember ever seeing cops on the platform or inside trains on smaller stations during regular operation. On large stations like central station or big exchange hubs they show presence regularly.

Oh that’s frustrating. Would it be less expensive to take a taxi there and then take a train back?

[–] ItTakesTwo@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

Unfortunately not, even though DHL increases postage costs yearly they are still rather cheap.

This sucks even more if one factors in DHL being notorious to lose packages... Personally I'd "live the crime life" and concealed carry 👀

I guess I'll do the same and hope for the best. Racial profiling is in my favour and if I try to avoid bigger stations along my route I could manage to get there without even seeing cops.

I didn't find the actual law, but I think you should be safe if you wrap it well (but: IANAL). There seem to be several common sense exceptions, so I wouldn't worry too much about this.

Good catch, might be worth it to put it in a wrapped box. If it comes to a search that might be just enough leverage to put them off of charging me.
