as a rule of thumb, more often than not, if an anime is being "mainstream" and having a lot of people interested in it is a safe indicator that it's boring and not watch-worthy
everything interesting and watch-worthy is so edgy that the majority of the population can't handle it; though that's essentially why it's watch-worthy in the first place. it gives you some nice and much-needed mental gymnastics. :)
I like edgy stuff but I'm ootl on current anime. Can you recommend anything in particular?
I watched a couple episodes of DanDaDan the other night. It's definitely out there.
