At least none of the Iranians voted for their government (yes, I know they have "elections").
Yeah, it's insane how entrenched a sense of immunity from consequences and dehumanization of the other can become in a population. Cultural and political norms are very powerful things, despite so often being dismissed.
... I guess as an American, I get to watch that intensify here at home. At least we don't have any larger power to protect us from consequences. Hopefully that will help some amount of domestic pushback...
