I feel like you're playing exactly into their hands. Make it similar enough that everyone is in no doubt as to what they're saying, but different enough to give them plausible deniability if it ever got escalated.

Don’t talk about it like it’s an idle scribble in a copybook, they went to a lot of trouble to make that to put on their uniform. They know what they’re doing. Do not give them a single inch.
