Explanation: While Ancient Rome's attitude towards homosexuality was not unconditionally positive, it was far more accepting of homosexuality than European society for the next ~2000 years. The Italian fascist dictator Mussolini being both a homophobe and declaring his intention to revive the values of the Roman Empire are in strong contrast with each other.
Also, Mussolini tried to wean Italians off of spaghetti as part of his futurist and autarkist dreams. What a fucking weirdo.
Why wouldn't they be able to produce their own flour for pasta?
They could, but not in the amount needed to prevent all wheat imports, which was the insane autarkic aim of Mussolini. One of the attempts, as mentioned, to achieve this autarky was to change the Italian diet to shift away from pasta - Mussolini's aim was predominantly rice, which is a higher-yield crop per acre.
This did not take root, even during the fascist regime.
Autarky does make war economically much easier to do. And they must not have known about rice noodles.
