I once tried to convince my family we should adjust feeding times to compensate. That was harder and less fruitful than just putting up with the dog's non-sense for half the year.
If I had my way, the dog would have an auto-feeder set to give an appropriate amount of food a few times a day. The cats share a gravity feeder, but insist we look at it first thing in the morning, even though that's almost never when it, or the water bowl, needs re-filled.
