You know what I can't understand? Why "us", the "civilized" european countries support brutal eastern nazis. Israel is the biggest terrorist in the area and yet "we" always supported them. I think the time for jewish "we were suffering" get out of jail card has passed a long time ago.

Perhaps it's because, underneath all the liberal "enlightenment" feelgood wingwong, it's still the same old Europe?

There are still a lot of people in Europe and the US who think it sounds more plausible that governments, the UN, and lots of international news organisations are so antisemitic that they'd fabricate a genocide in order to make people dislike Israel than it is that Israel might perpetrate a genocide. Part of that is because Israel's actions, both direct and indirect, both intentionally and unintentionally, have stoked lots of antisemitism, and that's added onto pre-existing shamefully high levels of antisemitism in lots of the world, then the perception of that has been amplified to ensure that jews worldwide are scared. If you see a scary amount of antisemitism everyday, and you're aware that the Nazis made up outlandish lies and used them to convince most Germans to allow the holocaust, it might seem pretty plausible that modern antisemites would run a misinformation campaign to convince people that Israel was perpetrating a genocide when it was really fighting a purely defensive and just war. Once you have that impression, it's going to be pretty difficult to convince you that any single piece of evidence of genocide wasn't fabricated.

There's not an easy way to reconcile the situation when a significant fraction of a population has been duped like this.

It's because that's where Jesus lived!

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That is barely the argument in Europe. Maybe in USA.

Really? What's Europe's dominant religion?

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dominant doesn't mean so powerful as in the USA. People here are a little bit less dumb in this department. Most of us don't believe in some imaginary bullshit.

But just for fun, what's the dominant religion? It couldn't be one based in magic, right? You guys are too smart to believe in magic...
