Not gonna lie, some of the videos are fun and entertaining but, like, the flip side of that is:

  1. Who is going to pay for this? Surely it is extremely expensive.
  2. The incredible amount of harm it's going to cause. People are already extremely gullible and this will most certainly be used not only to manipulate but also as a scapegote. ie: making videos of politicians saying things they didn't, and politicians claiming things they said were AI. One of the first things people started making was manufactured bombings.

When Sora was launched, I made my dad watch a ton of the videos. Just so he'd know it wasn't just possible, it was EASY to fake a video.

Didn't stop him from asking me how an America's Got Talent contestant turned himself into a lion, though lol

an America's Got Talent contestant turned himself into a lion

I haven't seen this video, but I sure can envision it.

He showed me a bunch of similar videos...I should also be clear, he didn't think the human actually turned into a lion - he thought it was some kind of stage illusion. He's gullible but he doesn't believe in literal magic

For sure. I'm just saying I've seen enough AI slop I can picture the video.

Yeah i was thinking about your second point back when sora1 is released, with how quick info can travel and how fast people make decision and judgement, it's not gonna be great.

What is really absurd is that their "fix" is a watermark. As if I didn't learn to get watermarks out with some free program on windows in the early 2000s.

[–] xpey@piefed.social 6 points 4 days ago

They know it's not a fix. They just went with a half-assed "solution" so they appear as though they care. Watermarks have never worked, specially Sora2's small one, and they know that.
