TBF, if you don't really need a vehicle that can do everything, then overengineering them to do everything might not be efficient.

That being said, going the other way of having dozens of overlapping designs to hyper specialize isn't efficient either.

And before the Reformers start spewing nonsense: yes, the F-35 and all other 5th gen fighters need to do damn near everything. Shut up.
