NZ is behind in this regard but in a lot of other countries the government and services like your mechanic would be available on WhatsApp.
If I really needed a phone number there is plenty of services that provide VoIP numbers that functionally work like a normal number.
Or, I could have a functioning phone, and just dial a number.
You can no ones stopping you. I'm just saying the future is not SMS and calls and explaining why I think that.
