Yarrabyte has clearly celebrated a little too hard again. Must order some more beroccas, they'll need them and I've run out of the hair of the dog.

My aunt is trying to give me unsolicited dating advice. She is only about 15 years older than me, but the advice reads baby boomer. The man should pay, buy you flowers, open your car door, spoil you. What if I want to spoil a man? What if I don't even end up dating a man?

Her credentials include being in a ten year unfulfilling relationship and now a six month one where the guy has paid for mostly everything. I don't know anything about the guy, except he makes money and takes her out to dinner. Her view is that I'm a coward because I want to grow into myself more before I date someone. I think you should be mostly happy with yourself before you date someone, or you've got a big fat lesson in self-love coming your way. Haha

buy you flowers

I used to grow flowers to give to an ex of mine. She and her mum always complimented that they last so long. When she found out I didn't buy them she didn't like them any more lol.

Hahaha Jesus Christ man.

Wow, that would make me love them even more! I've been wanting to grow more flowers for ages. Extended family are currently growing waratahs in the backyard and they are gorgeous.

Ex for a reason lol

What? Growing flowers is loads more effort than just buying them.

If I pay $60 for a bunch of flowers, that's something like 1-2 hours work. Growing them? No idea how long that takes, but I bet it's longer than that.

It constantly amazes how many boomer hippy feminists are all into men taking the initiative, men paying, men treating them like a princess, the women see it as a power move

it enrages me

and it also enrages me how many men believe it too , they also see it as a power move

No one is treating the other as an equal , no one is talking , making plans together,

and it's not normal, it never was , successful relationships were always based on respect and equality even if there was division of labour

also, we have stop measuring people and actions in monetary terms

the home grown flowers are beautiful

but so can shop bought flowers be beautiful

it's all about intent of the giver

and the values of the recipient

She's a millennial 😛 but yes it enrages me too and I agree with you. I didn't love the movie Materialists, but it does exaggerate how materialistic modern dating is.

I have always, and will always look for an equal.

Not a slave at my whim nor a monarch who requires tribute.

This. It shits me when people think men should do all the "charming".

Be careful of these types. She might try to sneakily set you up with some rando just so you ‘have someone’. Because they pity single people and think that’s doing you a favour.

What if I want to spoil a man?

Be careful of doing that too unless you want to pick up a hobosexual. Which you don’t. (Btw they come in every gender.)

Staying single and growing into yourself is a really good option.

Thanks.

I don't think she'd be that bad but she did say she would swipe for me if I had dating apps. No thanks.

Today I learnt what a hobosexual was. Definitely won't fall into the trap of becoming a sugar mummy hahaha. shudders
