Not only does this have a hot burning acetylene flame next to the powder in the lock, but it has and entire second trigger and flintlock mechanism for the same barrel.
What a weird gun.
Gotta light the lamp!
Is that legit what it's for? Lighting a carbide lamp with gunpowder?!
I mean, it's probably an oil lamp.
It's likely an oil lamp, as carbide lamps came up more than 100 years later.
All sorts of clever, and not so clever ideas were tested to try to make a muzzle loader like this capable of firing more than one shot before having to reload.
Some guns had multiple charges and bullets loaded in front of one another in the barrel with multiple firing mechanism spaced to align with each charge.
You just had to make sure to fire the charge that is at the front and hope the other ones behind it wouldn't chain fire or it would have likely blown up the gun.
But it looks like for this specific one, the second firing mechanism might have been there to light the lamp.
