LOL if he cared about Disney ethics he wouldn't have been making movies for them in the first place.
Oh. My. God.
"[Actor/Actress] speaks out against Disney / in support of Kimmel"
Lemmy:
Can we not just appreciate the high-profile support here? Is nothing ever good enough for you people? What does it freaking take to satisfy you??
They must simultaneously both work on major current projects AND abstain from interacting with Disney, ever, to sustain the moral high ground. π«¨π«‘
Clearly π. But these people would still find something to complain about. Ugh.
My blocklist has been growing lately!
I have so many people blocked that the comment count in the feed is basically useless now. lol
Liar.
Prove it.
Disney, who owns 40% of the American media landscape.
So now we're gatekeeping art? Are you for real?
Your issue is with with the institutions not the artists. How is acting not art?
All they have to do is shut the fuck up. No one should care about their opinions. The moral high ground was lost when they started working for one of the most ethically corrupt companies on the planet.
Relevant use of Janeway
My home instance has some awesome custom emojis. :)
If the Star Trek instance wasn't going to support the Tankies on Lemmy.ml then I'd have jumped there.
I just blocked the instance. I'm not judging based on that since the instances that do block
mlare (still) the minority. Tankies notwithstanding, there are too many communities people would FOMO about if an instance were to defed fromml. That said, I would happily support the admins' decision to do so if they ever decide to, but I'm not gonna insist they do since I can block it myself
Specific dipshits who happen to be on Lemmy*
They speak only for themself.
Not wrong, but that's 3 separate groups all with the same "nothing is ever good enough" / "perfect is the enemy of good" / "purity testing" attitude.
It gets old fast, but it usually manifests in smaller doses over a longer period of time. With all the support coming in for Kimmel the last few days, and these people and their constant nitpickig and negging on everything, I've reached my limit of that kind of attitude far faster than I can recover.
Hereβs my unpopular opinion: people like what you describe are merely the other side of the zealot coin that is shared by MAGAts and the conservatives they purport to hate.
Opposite sides of the coin, equally insufferable.
Capt. Janeway, Ensign Kim has been making inappropriate overtures towards seven of nine, and it's making her uncomfortable. After your clear and rational argument regarding the Mandalorian guy, what do we do?
I don't know what that's supposed to mean. Disney is a notoriously shitty company.
There have been multiple different articles posted like this one of various actors throwing in support for Kimmel / admonishing Disney. A good chunk of the replies to those posts are in the exact vein (or closely paraphrased) in my comment above and yours to which I replied. The common theme is nitpicking and whining and nothing ever being good enough.
Multiple people are making similar comments because it's NOT good enough.
Iβm struggling to think of a single large corporation that hasnβt done something shitty like engaging in questionable labor practices, curbed unionization, influenced lawmakers to weaken worker/consumer/environmental protections, gave CEOs massive salaries while cutting healthcare options etcβ¦
I know there are some exceptions to the rule, but we canβt all work at those (probably what, like, three?) companies.
Capitalism will swallow the human side of every paying position eventually.
Just because they've all done shitty things doesn't mean they're all equally shitty.
Yeah, why do famous actors always work for big companies, why can't famous actors only ever work for small independent companies? Since in this binary world, if something isn't perfectly 1, it might as well be 0. You shouldn't have a single fault, or you are faulty. You should be able to walk through the mud without getting dirty.
I think what you're trying to say here is that if actors worked for small independent companies that they wouldn't be famous. However you're not considering the other side of that coin, which is that if they actually did that, they would either make those small companies into big ones, or make the big ones (like Disney) more ethical. But Disney gets to remain the big unethical company because no one cares about anything but money.
No no no. You see, we have to accept that Disney is the top dog, thereΒ΄s nothing we can do about it. Pay them to watch Pedro revive their dying Star Wars IP for them and feel good about all his bravery both on and off-screen
My wife bought a fun shirt not that long ago.
Thought I'd share it.
You replied to the wrong person BTW.
Whoops. Well, I shouldn't have commented anyway, I regretted it not long after.
I don't get it.
NO FUN ALLOWED
yup, and F4 was not a good movie with him in it.
