Mabuhay at maligayang pagdating sa Lemmy! ๐ต๐ญ
A fediverse community for the Philippines and all things Filipino!
Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

Yo yo, EDSA Sep. 21 Protests, what do y'all think about it? Those who still remain in Lemmy, after all this time?

Ok sana protets maging regular event lang para magising yun mga nakaupo. Pero disappointed kasi yun iba gusto ng riot, di pwede peaceful sa kanila
Replying on October 17, the protests are not limited to the Sept 21 and subsequent rallies, apparently there are now spontaneous cries for justice in big community events. I am glad that we filipinos now see this not just as a scandal that will blow over, but something that permeates Filipino life. And the recent earthquakes in Mindanao was especially bitter... Debris from substandard projects (still under DPWH) had killed and injured some people, which is direct proof that these kurakots have silently murdered many people by their greed.
Sadly, these protests are all performative. Just photo-ops for celebrities and influencers for brownie points and clout.
Ideal scenario: Something actually happens โ albeit only small potatoes get jailed and the few big wigs that do, would end up getting pardoned in 2028.
Likely scenario: Nothing happens. By 2026, we'll all forget about this โ same as Pharmally, Lost Sabungeros, Hacienda Luisita, Fertilizer Fund Scam โ and get outraged about what new expose is revealed. Meanwhile, the "heroic" individuals in this whole brouhaha like Remulla, Dizon, Magalong, jettisons their popularity into national positions.
hmm i do hope that the other more.. organized people keep up the attention and rhetoric but yeah what you said can still happen
