If you cancelled your Disney+ over this, don't reactivate it just because they bring Kimmel back. They can't get away with just a slap on the wrist, they need to lose a whole hand. This needs to hurt them for more than just a week; this needs to be a permanent, scarred gash on their history otherwise we'll be right back here again next week.

Once you bend the knee to fascists, that makes you a fascist forever. Disney caving in due to the public doesn't mean they're sorry.

People need to get off the mouse's dick and start pirating their content if you can't live without it.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 34 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yeah I’m not gonna be reactivating their shit. I am perfectly comfortable hoisting my Jolly Roger again if I want to see some Star Wars content they come out with.

[–] modus@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago (3 children)

FYI, you can watch late night TV programs like Kimmel for free over the air with an antenna in most cities.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 31 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I don’t actually like kimmel’s show - it’s the principle of the matter, for me.

[–] modus@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Gotcha. See you on the high seas, matey.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

FYI, ota stations were the driving force behind the cancellation. See if your local station is owned by Nexstar or Sinclair.

[–] mpramann@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

These local TV stations basically just broadcast ABC content with added local news and ads. It does not matter where you watch Kimmel - the views are still aggregated at Disney and they still benefit from them.

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

If you receive it via antenna then they do not know and cannot count you; unless you happen to have one of the Nelson boxes in your house monitoring your tv usage.

Really surprised how many people here still had subscriptions.

I don’t shop at massive corporations if I can help it and most of the time I can find elsewhere, even if it costs me more.

I only have subscriptions for:

  • VPN
  • Plex
  • Apple TV because I used to work there and have it free until next year.

Oh God delete your post before the Jellyfhiles show up

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

To be fair I use Jellyfin myself. Plex is for friends and family.

[–] Mailloche@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Bought plex lifetime membership in 2015 else I'd be on Jelly I'm sure.

[–] MummysLittleBloodSlut@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I use Jellyfin. Plex what my friends and family prefer.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

Absolutely, the boycott needs to keep on going since this apparently is all Iger can understand.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

But sending the message that they've irrevocably lost us no matter what they do now is sending a message that they should continue to do whatever the administration says because there's no benefit to changing their path.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 6 points 5 days ago

No, the benefit to changing their path is that it can still get much worse for them if they don't. As long as the company is run by people with anything left to lose, it can get worse.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

I dunno, man. My mind goes to positive reinforcement for doing the right thing. Disney is a maaaaaaaaaassive fucking corporation with a platform that can reach many many people. If we reward them for fixing their mistakes and punish them for going against societal contracts and moral values, then perhaps they will put out content that reinforces the societal contacts and moral values which helps fight authoritarianism.

Money is what they care about, not values, but even if they are spreading the values we want just because of money then they are still spreading the values we want. We need platforms that can at least even pretend supporting our narratives in the sea of right wing propaganda.

[–] username123@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

They’ve already been a really shitty corporation. They helped put us here. Getting Kimmel back is too small of a win.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 2 points 5 days ago

Disney is a maaaaaaaaaassive fucking corporation with a platform that can reach many many people.

Exactly why they don't need positive reinforcement, IMO. How do you reward one who already has everything?

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 days ago

Ethical piracy

[–] apenstaartje@lemmy.cafe 1 points 6 days ago

Yeah, wait for at least a few more days before you return – which is exactly what everyone will do

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Wait until someone else picks it up
