Like... the majority of them were okay with this. An overwhelming majority if you factor in those eligible to vote who didn't. Up until a bunch of them start getting hit by the tariffs and stuff, they didn't really care either. "Canada, eh? Who cares." I've basically been stuck in a situation in my head where I'm like "I want to be polite so I don't want to just blatantly ask "Did you vote and if so who for?" but Idk what to say"
I don't think it's impolite. As an American migrant to a foreign country, it's one of the first things most Americans ask each other.
I wouldn't. I'd be absurdly charitable. People are primarily shaped by their material circumstances. Can you blame a fucker that got like 20% of your education? Be charitable to regular people even if the odds are they're a fascist/collaboraror. These people face the same material issues as most of us do. They are also same people are the ones who can and would likely bring change for the better. And they often aren't zealous believers in the party line.
That doesn't mean on the whole we shouldn't keep elbows up. Especially because we generally interact with American corporations, not this or that poor, healthcareless bastard.
Yes.
I'm not being kind to someone who hates my country just because the reason for hating my country is ignorance. I'm tired and I'm angry and I'm not going to extend an olive branch to someone who wants me, as a gay autistic dude, dead. At least that's how it shows through their voting habits.
Their voting actions speak a lot louder than the rude words I'd say and if they got their feelings hurt then I could give less of a fuck when I've had friends already die from their flagrant stupidity.
Can't blame you.
Remember in Saving Private Ryan when Captain Miller showed mercy to the German soldier?
Captain Miller spares the soldier. Later in the movie, that same soldier shoots Captain Miller.
70% of Americans directly participated in the election of Donald Trump. They “can and would likely bring change for the better” my ass.
I am Canadian. I have spent my life giving everybody the benefit of the doubt. But not nazis. And, since the beginning of this year, not Americans.
Canadians have historically been noted for their politeness. We are also known for being the wrong ones to fight in a war. The boys who stormed Juno beach did not make the furthest inland advance of all the D Day landing parties by remembering to be charitable.
It is not about blame. It is about risk.
Treat people well in the grocery store. Bring out their best. But when you encounter one of a group that collectively wishes your entire country harm, recognize them for the hostile risk that they are.
No they are racists
I mean.. yeah.
