Rules:

  1. No sympathy with the enemy or its collaborators. Russian and North Korean soldiers are fascists committing a genocide. Remember that.

  2. Objective and factual reporting from the battlefield, parliaments, etc. is encouraged, even if it's about bad news for Ukraine.

  3. Insulting Putin and his cronies (Orban, Trump, Musk,...) is absolutely fine but don't use homophobic or similar language against them. Members of the queer community don't deserve to be compared to that scum. Also: Putin disciminates against gay people. If you do as well, you're part of the problem.

  4. Don't insult or use overly harsh language against other commentators.

  5. Don't submit direct links to Twitter/X and Truth Social posts. You may: Post a screenshot + quote, do a full quote and name the author, direct link to a proxy service like xcancel.com, deep link an image embedded in a tweet because Lemmy will cache a copy.

  6. Don't just complain about paywalls. If you encounter one, be a sport and link to an archived version instead. Use Firefox + uBlock Origin with the annoyances filters enabled and https://filterlists.com/lists/bypass-paywalls-clean-filter to avoid encountering many in the first place.

Yeah I was just reacting to hearing someone say that recently. That "both sides" are doing it. When is predominately 1 side doing it. I'm not sure I even know of someone on the "left" that says things like he was saying. I could be wrong and willing to admit it if someone could produce said person. Either way it's coming mostly from the "right". And thanks for the good analogy of it being a spectrum or fabric.

I’m not sure I even know of someone on the “left” that says things like he was saying.

Sort of the heart of the respective ideologies. Leftists are inclined towards egalitarianism and comradre, with the view that a handful of selfish people are hording wealth to the immiseration of all. Reactionaries are inclined towards eugenics and the theory that a favored few deserve it all, with the view that "culling the herd" of undesirables is important and necessary work for a society to perform.

You'd like to think that a leftist would have been the one to end Kirk's career abruptly. But the idea of a militant left is so tied up with the idea of Evil Foreigner "Tankies" (and to a lesser degree, the clumsy disastrous youth movements of the 90s/00s) that its totally alien to anyone in any active organizing roll.

Meanwhile, armed reactionaries looking for someone to assassinate are a dime a dozen.
