Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Of course they did it for attention. I'm not saying this about the Trump shooter. I'm saying this about someone who targeted not an oligarch, not Trump himself or anyone with actual concrete power. But a guy whose job was to speak in front of crowds. The crowd and the spectacle was the point. Nothing is to be gained by removing Charlie Kirk from existence. His damage is already done, and this just makes that worse by giving him free sympathy and attention.

Whoever did this clearly didn't care that they were harming the left and helping the far right, at least they didn't care more about that than getting attention for themselves.

This whole time we've been wondering how Trump will distract from Epstein, then someone does it for him. If this is a leftist, it's the dumbest fucking leftist ever.

Do you suppose that "concrete power" was obtained spontaneously? Kirk and his ilk paved the way for what we have now. He was one cog in a directed system of influence to instate fascism.

Even if the shooter targeted Mango Mussolini and succeeded, do you think that American fascism would vanish? No, because again it's a system of influence that led to this point. A long, slow erosion of the social fabric brought on by bad-faith arguments, lies, and wanton disregard for the welfare of others - even jovial disregard for others.

This system of influence has told people that empathy is a weakness - the dead guy even said as much. I tend to disagree with that sentiment, but now we're in "paradox of tolerance" territory.

I'll take whatever win against fascism that comes. You speak of the shooter possibly being "the dumbest leftist" - I guess they should have consulted first? Like what national plan is there for any left movement in the US? If you mean "left" as in Democrat - there is no plan, just wait it out and keep sucking the corpo cock. If you mean "left" as in Anarchist, Socialist, etc. then there's also no plan because Americans as a whole have made it clear that they love the boot, love consumerism, and hate change. So what imaginary grand strategy are you picturing?

I mean look at literally anything that actually has worked. Civil disobedience, documenting and publicizing fascist abuses, and yes IF you have the military advantage AND everything else has failed, fight violently - but targeting the leaders, not some clown who's exploiting fascism for personal gain.

Look at what just happened in DC. There's lots to criticize there, but nonviolence still worked. The takeover was an embarrassing fiasco and it's expiring right now. Done. And the most violence used was throwing a sandwich.

No lone assassin has ever defeated fascism. Certainly not one who isn't even targeting an actual leader.

Yeah, those actions had a significantly larger impact, but don't forget the contribution to stalling escalation some groups like the Black Panthers achieved. Nonviolence often beats out violence, but it won't deter everyone.🩷

You can’t say they did it for attention otherwise they would be like yeah it was me bro, and what.

Although, I am in agreement that if this is someone on the left it does hurt us. With Luigi and Brian it was different both sides hate the healthcare racket but this just makes us look bad.

That said though maybe just kill all the people we don’t agree with, morally, then it doesn’t matter. I’ve been as mad as I assume this guy is but don’t have the whatever it takes to do this, but I like to think if I was killing someone for my moral beliefs I would own that shit and surrender at the scene and take my day in court to be like yeah I did that and I did that for the greater good.
