The suspect is still at large - officials earlier said they found a high-powered rifle in woods near where Kirk was shot.

Also, "high powered rifle" essentially means "not a 22".

Cartridges with "transgender and anti-fascist" writing on them were found.

Why would somebody smart enough to evade capture, and dump the weapon in the woods, leave a cutesy little note on the cartridge clearly identifying their political beliefs?

Why is this like the 3rd high profile murder that seems to be tipping us towards civil war, where the killer has allegedly done this?

How did that old man end up in handcuffs if this is the guy they were looking for? Why did it take so long to release this image? So many questions.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's a lie. the manufacturer's code "TRN" was on it. That's it

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 76 points 2 days ago (1 children)

MAGA will use this transgender piece to put all transgender citizens in camps. They already have the camps made. It begins here.

[–] FundMECFS@anarchist.nexus 40 points 2 days ago

They were already going to.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 53 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Early reporting on stuff like this is almost always wrong, so take it with a grain of salt. We have no idea who is spreading that info and it could very well be intentional misinfo.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 50 points 2 days ago (2 children)

A week from now it won't matter that the reporting was wrong because it's already fact in the minds of their audience.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"A lie travels half way around the world while the truth is still putting on its pants."

[–] TheMinister@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

lol I think it’s “boots”

Why did the truth have their pants down

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago

The truth is naked most of the time. Only puts pants on for pressers because American's are too prudish to handle the naked truth.

[–] mimic_kry@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Idk do you always wear pants? Cuz I never wear em if I have the choice

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Much harder for me to conceal carry without pants.

[–] mimic_kry@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I just use my prison wallet

Wait are we talking about rifles

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

RPGs actually.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Realistically, the minds of the audience were made up before the reporting. ;) The reporting just confirms what they already "know".

Looks like the "engraved cartridges" story is coming from the Wall Street Journal. So, Murdoch.

https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/charlie-kirk-shot/card/ammunition-in-kirk-shooting-engraved-with-transgender-antifascist-ideology-sources-pdymd1sXXMSlVRhpvR4b

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Investigators found ammunition engraved with expressions of transgender and antifascist ideology inside the rifle that authorities believe was used in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, according to an internal law-enforcement bulletin and a person familiar with the investigation.

Without the actual text, for all we know, it says "we all have rights". I would be entirely unsurprised if a right-wing agency head decides that it warrants looking into left-leaning individuals, then someone leaks it to the press to start the dissemination of that narrative that it was proved to be a left-wing shooter before anyone actually caught him.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I know it has since come to light that he was alt-right, but anything written on evidence would likely be to throw off the investigation if one was smart. Print an AI manifesto of everything you're against to throw off the scent to buy time. If I were ever to do such a thing, mine would all say "LOL!" Or "boner" or something. But that's just cause I'm juvenile, not psychotic, and thus would never really do such a thing in the first place.

[–] Master@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Without seeing it for all we know it says Remington.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Cartridges with "transgender and anti-fascist" writing on them were found.

Unsurprisingly, barely any of the media is reporting that correctly.

That's how it was described by government officials when leaked to specific news agencies and kept extremely vague. "Transgender and anti-fascist" writing could mean "we have equal rights" or "gun control is safety" for all we know, but now the narrative is out there for them finding "evidence" that the perpetrator is {insert some trigger word for groups that the right already thinks is trying to destroy them}.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 10 points 2 days ago

They're dogwhistles for the 3%-ers and proud boys or however they call themselves these days to start hunting leftwingers.

Keep yourselves safe, people!

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It’s interesting how the word “ideology” is just a spooky word used. Most people hearing this and getting enraged don’t even know what the fuck it means. It’s like asking a maga person to clearly define the word “economy.”

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

the economy is what the oligarchs tell them it is. They have no free thinking ability. They just shovel down what the ruling class and super wealthy give to them.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why would somebody smart enough to evade capture, and dump the weapon in the woods, leave a cutesy little note on the cartridge clearly identifying their political beliefs?

I think they identified their political beliefs when they murdered a right wing talking head. That was the whole point.

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Was it the point though? Bc on Wednesday, hours before that hit job, the Senate called for a probe into the biggest fish they could possibly catch in the Epstein investigation including Peter Thiel, JP Morgan, and other banks

It would require at least some Republicans to join the investigation, but doing so would definitely make a lot of powerful people very angry. Instead of anybody hearing anything about that investigation though, or who might be considering joining in, Charlie Kirk was suddenly assassinated. Now most Republicans seem to be calling for war on the left like their lives depend on it.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah, so we're going with conspiracy theories, eh?

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah you're right, how silly of me. There is nothing to see here. When you ignore all the things that don't make any sense, a 22 yo lefty sharp shooter who snuck an old time rifle onto a roof and got in a single kill shot, then jumped from the roof and escaped on foot bc he was out for blood against a famous right wing podcaster, actually makes perfect sense. Please forgive me and ignore.

Ce n’est pas une conspiration

[–] artyom@piefed.social -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The images are unnecessary, we all know what's happening with Epstein and we're all capable of clicking links.

What about this situation doesn't make sense?

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just said it all makes perfect sense. A kid who isn't registered to a political party and didn't vote in the last two elections suddenly became a radicalized leftist sharp shooter. And a relative confirmed they talked about how they both disliked Kirk once over a dinner. Story checks out.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/09/12/us/tyler-robinson-charlie-kirk-shooting-suspect-invs

I mean most people literally didn't know about that call for an investigation into Epstein, Thiel, and JP Morgan bc it was literally only made a few hours before Kirk was assassinated. Just can't really see why it's a bad thing for more people to know about that?

[–] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

I honestly can't tell if you're being sarcastic. From what I know, it makes perfect sense.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How did that old man end up in handcuffs if this is the guy they were looking for?

That was a long time ago, relatively speaking. Well before they had collected any video whatsoever.

Why did it take so long to release this image?

It takes a good deal of time to acquire and scour through all the video available. They initially thought they would be able to identify this person without releasing images, and probably didn't want another lionization as with Not Luigi. I guess that didn't pan out.

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That was a long time ago, relatively speaking. Well before they had collected any video whatsoever.

🤣 That was less than 24 hrs ago!

They had to have some reason for saying "that guy right there."

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago

relatively speaking

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 23 points 2 days ago

Saw that, too. I am reserving my thoughts on that until more information comes out.

[–] Wazowski@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

It’s fucking obvious propaganda bullshit.

[–] FundMECFS@anarchist.nexus 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dumping the weapons in the woods not far from the university is a pretty shit way tbh. Weapons are extremely traceable and contain a shitload of DNA evidence. You’d rather be able to get it further out and dump it with weights into a deep fast flowing river.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, that seems like a no-brainer, especially for someone who obviously planned it out and got away. I'm skeptical that whatever they've found is actually the murder weapon.

[–] TehWorld@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Lol whut. Maybe you are just joking, but finding a random rifle isn’t exactly just a common occurrence. They’re expensive and it’s not like people who own them like to leave them in the woods for storage.

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sure, but the video shows the gunman running away without a rifle, and dropping from the roof again, without a rifle. It shows a backpack that is far too small to conceal a rifle in the hands of the gunman- so did they cover it in a white towel and throw it into the woods from the roof or what? Lots of things aren't adding up yet, and I'm the first person to decry blueanon conspiracy theories.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Rifles can be disassembled. This is what Ear Shooter did to get in. I’m still curious to know how long it takes to pull an old Mauser down to backpack size.

[–] FundMECFS@anarchist.nexus 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you train well. You can learn to disassemble one in 10-20 secs. Depending on model.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 1 points 1 day ago

"Older model Mauser 30-06." Would that break down small enough to fit in a backpack? I know it's hard to say without more specifics, but I'm real curious.

[–] WhatGodIsMadeOf@feddit.org 4 points 2 days ago

This entire event is bullshit.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

are you seeing that in the article?

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)
[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 10 points 2 days ago

This looks like at least three different people I know, not that they did it. Just want to point out that this guy is probably 35+ and not actually college age as they said theyve been looking for. Hes a dead ringer for older guy that looks young, yet they are looking for a 20 year old

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago

That’s from other reporting, but it is being reported from legitimate sources.
