Weapon found, lots of surveillance footage recovered, including images of the shooter (not released).

Do you remember how quickly the FBI released footage of Luigi shooting that CEO? Why are they not releasing any footage of this person?

You know, I'll be honest. I've always assumed he definitely shot that CEO. But, I also assumed he probably wasn't in his right state of mind when he did bc of his health issues, and definitely didn't deserve the threats of death penalty.

This:

Cartridges with "transgender and anti-fascist" writing on them were found.

now has me questioning if maybe he was actually just set up as a patsy the whole time.

They'll say that it's because they want to exhaust other leads before seeking the public's help in identifying by face. They claim to have "good video footage."

But probably they don't want to allow the shooter to be lionized the way Luigi was. Not releasing images now only puts that off, though, doesn't prevent it entirely.

Since I was around 10 years old, there has always been some shooting on some campus somewhere in the U.S. on an increasingly frequent basis. I seriously cannot remember any campus shooting where a suspect just fired a single fatal shot or just walked away without getting caught.

There are established protocols that U.S. campuses have in place, not out of the kindness of their own heart, but for their own liability, that should have kept a suspect from just walking off with the crowd.

This is weird as fuck.

Their current approach has also led to them detaining the wrong person at least twice.

Have they noted anything in terms of where the bullet went? From watching footage of both angles, I didn't see an exit wound, so did it get lodged inside? Makes me wonder if the shooter took extra effort in the angle used, a hollow-point etc.

The building where the shooter is said to have been was a bit to Kirk's left - not, as was initially suggested, a different building to his right. I saw aftermath video yesterday of the area behind Kirk, behind the building his back was to. There was a taped off area there with three small traffic cones, presumably as evidence markers.

That building Kirk's back was to, the bottom of that building is wide open with a wide concrete walkway beneath it, which extends back beyond. That's where those cones were. Now I think those cones may have been marking bullet fragments that bounced off a side wall under that building and ended up on the walkway beyond/behind.

Hollow point rounds, strictly speaking, are pistol rounds. They have a cavity at the tip, which makes them balloon out and fragment more easily, to do more damage. Since they've recovered a "high powered bolt-action rifle," "hollow point" wouldn't be the right term. Some rifle rounds are made as "soft point" that does the same kind of thing that a hollow point pistol round would do, but generally speaking, you want penetration and distance with a rifle; you want that bullet to be pointy to cut through the air, go fast, go far, go straight.

Hollow point rifle rounds are absolutely a thing. I know this because I have a box of them at home. 30.06 hollow point is a common offering you can get basically anywhere.

TIL, all right then.
