Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Oh yeah, cartoonishly dead. Hardest I've ever laughed at a snuff video before (also the only time I've laughed at a snuff vid). I'm not proud or anything, just, it was really comedic setup and timing, with him talking about violence then just this gigantic upwelling of blood. Don't really recommend watching it but boy, what a cathartic death to have in the news.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 18 points 5 days ago (2 children)

It really was almost comedic timing. That probably sounds insensitive, but on the other hand fuck their feelings.

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 2 points 4 days ago

Comedic timing for sure. Little help from white hat and black shirt on the cue.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

jokes aren't okay to only be directed at one side or another. everything is fair game

and objectively, his murder was ironic and with comedic timing, and that's funny. regardless of it being a horrible event

[–] hector@lemmy.today 5 points 5 days ago

Some of these jokes go right for the jugular too, neck and neck with other such jokes.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Same. The mod of a news community here on Lemmy sent it to me like "Dude". I started watching it and started uproariously laughing. Loud as fuck massive belly laughs.

Felt weird after like "Odd reaction to someone dying" before remembering he literally wanted this and had been stoking it for actual years. Also, contrary to popular belief, you can totally be against gun violence while finding it utterly hysterical and not wanting it to happen. Do I want lil kids to fall over and hurt themselves? God no. But I'm probably gonna laugh at the goofs. Charlie Kirk was just a massive headed goof.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I think part of it was just the surprise, that happened so perfectly on beat in ways that real things like murder usually don't so the juxtaposition felt really amusing

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago

Oh wasn't the surprise for me because the caption of the video as well as the message from my buddy made it clear what I was about to see.

It was genuine joy.

There is no amount of money you could pay me that could give me the ability to even slightly suppress the fact that this news made me happy. Part of it is just the fact that he was a terrorist (stochastic still counts) who pushed ultra nationalist movements, preached violence, suggested it was necessary and even said a patriot should bail out the Pelosi attacker and therefore he was the victim of everything he has been claiming for years. But another part is a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine killed themselves and in their note they sent to me and a few other people they explicitly named Charlie Kirk and a bunch of other right wing people that drove them to that point. Someone who lost their family because when they came out as non binary they got slammed with hatred quoted from Kirk and others.

I know for an actual undeniable fact that Charlie Kirk is directly responsible for the death of at least one person and he had a platform allowing him to do exactly that.

So I don't have a single tear to shed that isn't from laughter.

Technically it's only snuff if the person filming is paid to produce it.
Anyways, sauce?

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 34 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (4 children)

That's a common definition for snuff but not the one I ascribe to. ~~Pleb.~~

Anyways here is the INCREDIBLY NSFL VIDEO

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 37 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Woah jeez

Yeah there was no way he was surviving that with how quickly he lost that blood.

I'm glad an audience of his supporters get to experience what so many other Americans have gotten to experience.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 9 points 5 days ago

Must have ripped carteroid artery or whatever.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

The blood isn't the important part of that video. It's his arms. That shot damaged his brainstem and he went into an instant fencing response which is a sign of a traumatic brain or brainstem injury. Even if he could survive that almost hysterical amount of instant blood loss, he would never have been the same. If he would have lived at all.

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

I'm sure those were paid actors in this false flag operation.

[–] python@lemmy.world 21 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Thank you!! That timing really is cartoonish!

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Charlie to universe:You just need to accept gun violence as a fact of life.

Universe to Charlie: Okay bruh if you insist.

Charlie to universe:You just need to accept gun violence as a fact of life.

Universe to Charlie: You first.

[–] rtxn@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

Thoughts and prayers ought to fix it right up.

[–] Taalnazi@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Ahh, nothing as healing as a fascist getting what he fucking deserved. The best of course would've been for him to see the error of his ways, and renounce his hatred. But hey, oh well.

[–] astropenguin5@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

It's findable fairly easily on twitter and such
Honestly not sure the rules on linking that kinda stuff here so just not gonna

[–] python@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The twitter clips are all behind a login wall, and I'm not looking to make a Twitter account :/

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Honestly the clips are probably easier to find on Mastodon. I've got a link I can send to you privately if you wish. Not like I don't have it saved at this point.

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 3 points 6 days ago

usa@lemmy.ml has a small 4 second clip.

[–] prex@aussie.zone 5 points 5 days ago (4 children)

I kind of don't want to see it.
What were his last words?

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 15 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Kirk: Counting gang violence? in the most smug tone he can manage

Audience: Great! BANG

Kirk: 😵 💦

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What an extremely healthy choice to make!

::: spoiler According to Snopes, this is the transcript of his last words:

[–] Resol@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

His last word was "violence" said in a rising tone.

this is partially correct. you don't want to see it.
