I was kinda hoping to never see the word "Megathread" again. Does it really need to be said?
As for the news, well it seemed like this guy was kinda willing this happen. I mean I put out there I don't care for a word, this guy seemed to put out there that gun violence was OK. Oh well.
It's become part of common vernacular, what do you propose as a way to communicate the idea that this topic is hot and everyone wants to post a new thread so the mods are consolidating them into one to keep the conversation going?
Do nothing. Let the people vote up the one they want and call it a day. It is only common on Reddit as far as I know. It has always bugged me.
I guess I remember it somewhat used on forums, maybe something awful? Maybe gaming forums? But mostly I saw it on reddit. If this was a normal forum, sure why not. But I am looking at an aggregate of a bunch of forums on Lemmy. I am going to see this posted over and over again no matter what any single mod does. I can scroll on by.
What's wrong with mega threads, beyond that they're usually about something rather big?
And yeah, this could be big enough... WWI started with a single assassination, though that was a higher level politician. Then afain,, this guy is part of a list of reasons why trump got reelected, and he might use this as an excuse to clamp down badly, causing things to spin out of control especially with the upcoming no kings II protests.
We shall see, but good riddance, the guy was a shit stain on humanity, sold his soul to the gun lobby, amongst things.
If you're cheerfully speeching about dead children being a good thing because it gives you the freedom to own guns then you deserve all that came to you.
I just think megathread is a stupid term. I never liked it, and consider it a stupid term that came from Reddit.
