It's always been that way though. The idea that liberalism is anything except the protection and promotion of capitalism is a fiction. It's always been a fiction. The idea that it ever had anything to do with equality or human rights is nonsense. From the earliest outset it was only about rights for the capitalist class. It's never been about rights for everybody.
All of the liberal revolutions involved voting rights for them. Not for the masses. It's always been rights and privileges for them, the bourgeoisie. For the capitalist class. From day one. Always a fiction it was more. People often call the American Revolution the first major liberal Revolution, which is debatable but still, and what did it do? Did those liberal revolutionaries ensure equality and freedom for all? Nope. Slavery is the huge black mark on the American Revolution. The giant gleaming badge of hypocrisy. When push comes to shove a liberal will abandon all else to preserve private property and capitalist profit. Every single time. That's how you know what they're really about.
