Sounds like early Vikings or just a collection of raiders. They don't care about records or writing. They wanted the food, women, and tools. Then they headed out. Probably parked on a beach and then enjoyed the plunder.

Considering the location (and the low level of development of Scandinavia at this time), it's unlikely that they were Norse in origin. It's generally accepted that they were probably from around Anatolia, Greece, and Italy.

More likely western Mediterranean people or western European peoples who were dealing with catastrophic climate change event at the time. They faced starvation and famine so whole collections of people moved east to try to save themselves.

Fall of Civilizations is a great podcast that details all of this and if you ever have time to listen to it (it's a youtube video with visuals but it mostly works as a podcast ... and no it's not some new AI show done by some random internet user) ... the writer and producer does a great job of presenting a lot of modern history and research that has been done on these subjects. It's a long program but great content.

I've been listening in all the other shows they have on their channel. Great way to learn so much in a relatively short space of time ... relative as compared to actually reading entire books on the subjects.
