The whole name change is a pointless distraction from the regime's many brutal crimes. Who cares what it's called? It's only ever acted as the department of war anyway.

It's less relevant than their many crimes, but nomenclature is part of establishing norms and goals. If the police were suddenly re-named the enforcers, it wouldn't be nothing - it would just be less relevant than the many other factors leading to police brutality.

Fascist regimes often changed established nomenclatures early in their reign precisely because performative brutality and the celebration of such is core to fascist propaganda.
