Many international competitions, such as international swing dancing, in the US have been postponed. Many international competitors don't feel welcomed. Many organisers consider moving competitions to overseas.

We closed our own door. There is not a single one country can thrive without international trade. They are not coming back to the US

As a Canadian - not going back to the US for the far foreseeable future. This isn't a "after next election" fix. There's a deep cultural issue that needs to be fixed before I care to spend my money there again.

As an American, there's a deep cultural issue that needs to be fixed in order for the country to survive.

Yup. Even if we eek out a miracle and elect a majority Democratic House and/or Senate we still have a Dictator in the Whitehouse and his admin has sprinkled loyalists all over the country. It will take decades to root out most of the fascists (some were probably there way before Trump ran the first time).

European in an international field here. I usually travel to US for work once every year or so but told my boss I am not willing to - his answer? “Well, me neither, you are good”

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 29 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

As an American, please don't. Our country is a dumpster fire, and I'm urging everyone to....ya know.....NEVER COME HERE!!! Seriously guys. It's bad. You're not safe here. Please don't put yourself in harms way.

Also......can't help but notice that you're Canadian. Mind if I stay on your couch for the next 60 years?

Can i sleep on the other side, like Charlie’s grandparents did in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

Canada beat fascism by only 3%, your next election is probably gonna swing it. Sorey

[–] DonkMagnum@lemy.lol 12 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

If you're referring to popular vote share, it's not a very meaningful number in terms of impact on the federal election.

The only number that matters in the end is seats in the house, of which the Liberals won 152 vs 120 for the fascist party - that's roughly a 25% margin... not a tight race in any meaningful way.

Not saying it can't or won't happen here, just saying characterizing this last election as a 3% contest is grossly inaccurate in real terms.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Only a 25% margin?! That's fucking terrifying!

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 hours ago

It was going to go handily toward fascism, but the US beat them to it, and sentiment immediately reversed course. A similar thing happened during the great depression. When people are living in scary, divisive times, fascism looks like a valid solution...until the country next door does it.

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe 2 points 13 hours ago

It’s gonna happen. Fascism thrives on fear and uncertainty. Trump is just a trial run for every country. They will all have their very successful “Project 2025s”

There is hope, but if we talk about that sort of thing we will get banned from here.
