Pretty sure they usually are. Training usually has a "hard deck" that they're supposed to treat as the ground, and if they go past it they "die". I wonder if this pilot blacked out mid maneuver

"die" is in quotes to indicate a figurative training/practice/simulation (read fake or test) death. --posting for anyone else who don't think too good (obvs me) and may need clarity Thank you for the explanation
