You shall repeat the vaccine lies!
You know you can just learn the science behind it and then it won't be a lie. Start simple.. https://www.the-odin.com/ learn..
I don't understand how giving people a link to buy lab ingredients will get anyone to learn an entire degree's worth of knowledge by fucking around with cell cultures with zero knowledge of even basic sterile technique. Congrats to whoever does, but that's expecting people to learn rock climbing by encouraging them to find a large boulder to raw dog without training, theory, or proper climbing equipment.
Huh HEK 293 is standard. Not sure what you mean on HeLa. No one uses these wd have synthetic immortal cell lines.. https://www.the-odin.com/human-cells/ look at the site? Yea, zero knowledge. It's called learning.
I have a degree in this shit. Get off your stupid high horse, you're not helping or educating anyone. You just want to feel good about yourself by calling other people stupid and doing a shit job at science advocacy. How about you learn what not being an arrogant dick looks like?
We should stop treating adults like children. This is not hard. When people attack science we should back. Being ignorant is not useful to anyone.
That initial comment can be taken in two ways, and you chose the worst one by thinking they're antivax when in fact they're not. Take a look at this removed comment from the modlog by the person you originally replied to:
Not to mention the context. It's Lemmy where the overwhelming majority of users are squarely pro-vax and generally well-educated to assume the worst from the get-go. The least you can do is skim through a user's comment history to get a sense of what they mean if you're so keen on people figuring things out on their own. At least be coherent in that front.
So your point is to abandon conviction in science based on person and community. Nah
My point is for you to stop being arrogant, stop assuming things, and learn proper science communication. Keep your conviction, but do it right.
Telling people they can learn anything is arrogant? They can.. They just don't want to.
The way you're going about it is arrogant. The starting point you're proposing is unintuitive, more time-consuming, impractical, and wildly expensive. "Well, they don't want to learn!" Really.
I respectfully disagree. I think that's high education, elitist nonsense and the reason there is little to no progress being made. You all gatekeep.
How is it elitist to tell you that you're promoting the most impractical way for lay people to learn and then blame them for not following through? lol
That school is required. I don't care what you think about me. Lol
I love how you drop the second part of that sentence: That school is required for the way you're proposing it. And don't come at me with "I linked the videos somewhere" because your original approach was doo-doo and also elitist.
I think you want it that way and so it was. Your feelings about what you read and how you read it is not my concern. I clearly said both are required.(reading,watching,doing.. whatever.. not a stupid degree) And i reject the notion this is too complex to learn over a few weeks.
Glad you corrected course, I hope it was good. Also, you're the only one talking about feelings for some strange reason. I usually hear that from people who are looking for a reaction when they're left with a stinging feeling after being called out. Anything you'd like to share? Point to where it hurts.
Never changed it. Oh, feelings because you are using personality defining terms. Meaning you feel a way about them. I think its logical. No, but you ended on a logical fallacy. You are using your own created opinion of mine.. as an argument. hmm
What personality-defining terms? lol I'm describing what you did. If I ended with "a logical fallacy ☝🤓" it's only because you're dropping decorum with the feelings bullshit. Drop the shit or we're gonna be rolling in it because I can roll up my sleeves if you want me to.
"describing what you did" didn't I just say this? Yea, go into court and describe it your way. Let me know how that works out. Not sure i follow on the rest.. but sure, do whatever. I said i respectfully disagree. You insisted on telling me how you felt about my approach - never commented about you personally. Its outside of the scope of this conversation.
Again with your emotional language. How about what I think about it? Because idk about you, but I was sharing my thoughts. Seems like you were projecting about your feelings, though.
Oh, you just called me emotional, but whatever. You sure didn't do the thing you claimed you didn't do.
You think? Glad you found a way to feel like the bigger person there. Really showing by example.
Fine "think" not sure why the salience of that word is so important to you. I called you emotional? No, I didn't (you said above "your emotional language." lol). How do you get emotion from the word "feel"? I can feel current.. Is current emotion? sigh Once again, last part escapes me. You are connecting dots that don't exist to make a point that is subjective. You call me arrogant but you are trying to force me to accept your analysis of myself. That's wild arrogant. I'm just blunt. Also, when someone says feel.. that's their observation (kind of like you keep saying "your emotional language."). You don't get to control that. Feel me? lol Why I didn't dismiss you calling me it. How can I? I'm not you.
You're reflecting language patterns I've seen in people who are projecting their emotions by accusing others of them. And if you quack and walk like a duck, I'm going to conclude you are one without getting bogged down by pedantic details. I've been randomly accused of being emotional a few times and then described in those terms, trying to frame me through that lens with every interaction. Feelings and emotions are not too far apart, and that's not a huge mystery to be pretending like you don't understand the connection. Sorry if that's not the case, but you were behaving in a certain way.
Forcing you? Don't confuse replying to messages in my inbox and standing my ground with you being at the center of my world. I don't care what you think or who you are, but I do care that you're acting like an arrogant asshole with a better-than-thou attitude when people are not behaving like self-taught savants with a million bucks to throw at some random website for their own personal CRISPR starter kits just so they can correct beliefs about vaccines that they do not have.
"I’ve seen in people" lol then talk about projection.. Can you have a logical none bias conversation?
Steps by step protocols, classes etc. Can you cook a microwave dinner? If so, you can do this.
Brother, I have read entire books on this and have spent a good deal of time in the lab, and I know for a fact you don't learn it by following a cooking recipe from YouTube.
Cool? But I think you are missing context. There are kits - no one will learn by avoiding failure. Do you really believe I meant one video would be it? Smh come on.. But start somewhere. Its the concepts and not looking at it like magic.. Its not
You start with approachable material that explains the basic theory. This is not it by putting the cart before the horse.
Are you serious? How is this complex. I respect your opinion but kids do these kits in school. I'm confused on what you see on this website that's complex?
Kids? I think you mean young adults in university who have at least a couple of semesters of rigorous biology and chemistry under their belt to understand what they're doing and why.
Dude, you don't need biochem to do any of this. You don't need to know a thing about biology to do a single one of these. But by the end it should sink in. You follow protocols. You think that requires a degree?
I'm not saying you need a degree to follow a recipe. I'm saying you need a formal education to understand what you're doing with those protocols, how they work, and most importantly, why. You're assuming that mucking around with some lab ingredients that the majority of pharma majors don't even touch in 5 years of school will transfer the knowledge that can be easily learned in other ways, especially for layfolk. Why not link to a video on YouTube, or an article on Wikipedia, or whatever other intro material online?
I agree. Just not on the order. Why not link to a video? Look at all the videos on the site. Fuck me we are all cooked.
Nah, see, this is the shit that I mean by you being arrogant. If your point is to learn, then link to the learning materials instead of the storefront. I'm the second person I've seen you do this to. Do you realize how you come across when you lead with the wrong thing and then blame people for not getting you?
I did. Reading required.
I'm not about to backtrack on a thread for something you replied to someone else some time later. Less arrogance required.
Fair enough.
Fine, here https://www.the-odin.com/edit-bacteria-with-crispr-simplified-version/ like, without self selection to review the site this won't make sense. Agree. I only linked human cell culture because the brain up there thought it was all plants. Lol
Performing a lab experiment isn't the same as understanding the biological framework and its mechanisms. All the lab stuff you do in school is to supplement what you learned in the classroom. It's never a substitute for reading material and the guidance of a professor. And also, who has $50 to spend on a single ingredient instead of going online and reading things for free? Might as well buy the textbooks for that price.
Never said that. Doing it a lot does. I think you have your way of learning and cant see a path outside that. Read vs. Hands on? Why not both at the same time. If you think people are this dumb.. Ok but I refuse to believe that.
What do you think people do in school? Technical degrees require at least 40% of their time in the lab, and I know that's not possible or practical for just about anyone without proper materials. Doing it solo and spending money on it is bonkers when there are so many better ways to learn. I don't think people are stupid, but I do think it's stupid to start learning these things that way.
Dude, this whole "without school" thing is so silly. I think you know this site made that worthless.
Yeah, the way you're proposing it requires schooling. Link a video directly, or an article, or anything other than a storefront for lab ingredients.
I disagree.
It's almost impressive how fucking stupid some people are, huh ?
Before you geniuses see they are kidney cells and Dunning-Kruger all over.. You can culture your own pluripotent stem cells from your stomach. Grow some more brain cells. You need them.
Think you missed the "start simple" part. Also, no shit? I think you missed the human cell culture. That's not a plant my dude.
Huh?
