Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

This is a wild story, dude flag down an officer at the gas station, told him he thought somebody drugged his grandkids ice cream. Didn't realize there was surveillance.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 47 points 1 day ago (1 children)

100% he was gonna claim it was a (((Democrat))) or a (((liberal))). Those that know know.

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Best not to use white supremacy symbols and signals though

[–] dickalan@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Delusion is the solution to pollution, by using them outside of the context you removed the power from them so I’m all for it, unless I’m wrong lol

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 41 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The whole point is that it's likely about white supremacy. And that people should be aware of it and it's language. For those that don't know.

[–] FrowingFostek@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

Today I learned

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

I definitely agree that educating people about these symbols is important and positive, but just... using them... is not a good method?

"Those that know know" ??? directly contradicts your stated intention

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 13 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

The intention was to instigate discussion. Which it did. Otherwise it would have been just another link that someone might have skimmed over.

Using it would have been treating it as a secret code that it is and not highlighting it. By highlighting it Etc the only way it was being used was as an example for people to inform themselves and learn from. Used to see that sort of bullshit all the time over on Reddit. Thankfully Lemmy is a better space.

Had no clue about them, so TIL because of your post.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 0 points 1 day ago (3 children)

i respect the attempt but i don't think this worked, personally

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 10 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

At least one person has. And one more aware of always a good thing.

The world and what is going on makes so much more sense when you have a basic understanding of Republican code speak and dog whistles. Like how Republicans are currently dispatching National Guard from states with high crime, to states with lower crime. Claiming that it's about crime. On the face of it it doesn't make any sense. Unless you understand that they've turned the word crime into a dog whistle / code word for black/brown/Jewish/liberal etc. When it comes to Republicans everything is about racism and white supremacy. Granted echoing is a bit more esoteric and slightly less common code / dog whistle from them.

I had no idea, thank you. I know I’ve seen it before and just assumed it was artistic writing. I’m way too fucking naive for this world

[–] Doublenut@lemmy.zip 9 points 23 hours ago (1 children)
[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think its the best way to go about it, yeah. You can educate people about it without just using the symbols

[–] dickalan@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

It got you to say something so it clearly made an impact so what were you saying again?

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 0 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Getting someone "to say something" is the goal of trolling.

The commenter did the equivalent of throwing sieg heils in public and winking ("those who know know" ??), then being like "I'm just raising awareness! It got you to say something!"

[–] dickalan@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

OIC. Thank you for clarifying

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just have to wonder "why"? What's the end goal. Risk your grandchild's safety to sue a Dairy Queen? It doesn't make sense.

[–] thallamabond@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (4 children)

There's no telling what his intentions were here.

It could have been politically motivated.

He could have dementia.

Maybe he was high on cocaine and ecstasy, and wanted to share.

Not enough details are available right now.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The fact that he flagged down a cop to tell them about it makes it pretty clear that he wasn't really looking to drug them per se, but rather to cause a legal incident. It may be that he wanted to sue Dairy Queen for profit, or perhaps get someone at the DQ store in trouble, or to blame it on a political group he deems undesirable (immigrant workers, trans people, liberals, etc.). In any event, it's psychopathic.

[–] mateofeo85@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

One theory is the girls found the pill inside and he tried to cover it up.

[–] KneeTitts@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago

There’s no telling what his intentions were here.

Heres an idea, he was gonna drug them for some trump style picture taking but the kids found the drugs, then he was trapped and had to report it (trying to blame it on someone else) and didnt realize he was caught on surveillance putting the drugs there himself.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Yes, I am your bearded granddaughter, and I'll take a vanilla and medicine flavored ice cream, please.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Could be Münchhausen by proxy.
