A bad leader today is better than a good leader tomorrow. Dems have had 10 years to figure out an effective strategy and developed leaders to compete against Trump, they've failed. Newsom isn't a good choice but he's the only one whose shown any effective strategy against Trump. Wtf are we supposed to do? Keep waiting while Republicans dismantle the fuel of law, democracy and the entire framework the country function on?
Effective how? Has Gavin kept a single innocent person out of jail, funded a single defunded program, protected a single city from Guard occupation?
What has Gavin created except ChatGPT imitations of Trump tweets and AI image slop? What has Gavin done except promote himself?
Gavin's not effective opposition. He just paid TikTok enough money to promote his meme shit that he looks viral. And his bullshit is going to last just about as long as "Kamala is brat" or Walz calling people "weird" did.
Mamdani has shown us an effective strategy, too. Stand for the people. Actually run on the fucking left. Don't just talk shit about Trump - actually oppose his policies. And convince working class Americans you really do stand with them, so they don't turn to right wing populist scumbags out of sheer desperation to be heard.
But that's not going to happen. Because the dirty Democrat secret is that the DNC leadership agrees with most of Trump's positions. They just want to implement them more politely.
Every time proper left wing policy is offered to Americans, you vote it down. Progressive policy does not fly in the US.
Your country has abandoned you GI, why donate your time and effort to a nation that only takes? Defect GI, migrate to a nation that appreciates your labour. Come to Australia! We have nationalised health care, some of the highest wages in the world, the best electoral system in the world, and Melbourne constantly ranking as one the best cities in the world.
Obligatory “Fuck off, we’re full” aside, honestly showing a few Americans what an actual functioning country looks like wouldn’t actually be a bad thing.
But maybe send them somewhere other than Melbourne and Sydney; Perth and Adelaide both get needlessly slept on.
You could always keep doing nothing and hope things change. A lot of people chose this option. It didn’t work this time but who knows….
If we get an election in 2028 and Gavin is the stinker propped up against whatever Trump 2.0 is going to be, we can try not voting again and see if things change.
Cool. So to clarify:
Remember Bernie and his horde of young male Bernie Bros supporters?
Remember Mamdani and his horde of Republican supporters?
Yeah. Dems just need policies that made these candidates popular if they want young male and Republican voters.
Instead, they fight these candidates harder than any Republican.
Maybe if Democrats want votes they should do more of what makes them popular, not what brings popularity to Trump.
Until then, it's no surprise they're struggling with respect because they've done nothing but ignore what works for their constituents in favor of what works for Trump. Eventually there will be no difference in behavior at all, which is basically where we are now.
Imo, the better strategy would simply be for every Dem to abandon the party, and instead register as Republican. Trump reformed the entire GOP in 10 years because they have no rules for who they'll let into the party. Seeing as there's far more registered Democrats in the country than republicans, and the GOP is a lot weaker towards reformation because of Trump, taking them over with progressives and progressive policies would just be putting condidates in place who don't lie to their GOP constituents.
Honestly, if you want progress, Democrats should start a movement to abandon their party and reform the GOP into the organization it used to be. INCLUDING Democrat candidates. You want to take advantage of gerrymandering? Do it as the GOP instead of fighting them.
This is basically what Russia did to the GOP and in its shape, it would not at all be hard to take it back. And once the GOP isn't all foreign agents promoting an media echo chamber working for a dictator, there's no more evil party the Dems have to fight.
Taking on Trump from the outside has literally never worked. And in the last 20 years, the GOP has undone almost 100 years of American and Democratic policy.
So take them over with non insane Americans, and the GOP bullshit ends.
If you fight them as Democrats, they just get stronger, because Democrats just fight with words.
Not that this will ever happen. But it's by far the best option America has for moving forward.
