Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Firstly, fuck the assholes who go into the whole right wing punisher bullshit. Just getting that part of this out of the way.
Secondly, wear your fucking seatbelt. It's literally there to save your fucking life. And the lives of those around you. Just fucking do it.
But finally, there are legitimate uses for (non punisher themed, I guess) seat belt silencers. Because of her disabilities, my mom had to use one of these for most of my life. She was unable to wear the seatbelt. There are also autistic folks with doctors notes exempting them from it because of severe sensory issues. Also, have you never put a bag of groceries on the passenger seat, only to be annoyed to hell and back by the beeping?
For groceries, just buckle the seatbelt.
It's hilariously ironic when people like that are repping the whole punisher iconography too because they're the kind of people the punisher would go after.
No, actually I don't want right-wing assholes wearing their seat-belts. The sooner they take themselves out the better. Let them win the Darwin award.
Killing some innocent person with their body... Sweet 😑
Has that ever happened? Someone ejected from a car in a crash killed or injured someone else?
Well yes?
Classic is no seat belt in the back, children killing their parents (and dying), but there are also people flying out of the front windshield into the other frontal crashing car killing people in there.
We got laws for a reason, not just to jerk with people.
I could use one on my empty passenger seat because the sensor in the seat is defective(where it thinks there's always a passenger) but i instead just buckle the seatbelt across the empty seat.
Yeah i was gonna say this.
I'd never drive while a passenger isn't wearing a belt (notwithstanding the exceptions you mentioned).
However, it is kind of annoying i cant put things on the front passenger seat while I'm running errands.
Another example would be on farms. Forever getting in and out of the car for gates or what have you, feeding livestock, et cetera.
I think the punisher skull is a bit much though.
This should be something that you can disable through a setting in your vehicle. Don't make me cut wires, or trick the system into thinking I'm buckled in... just let me turn off the beeping. If I'm in my car and I'm not wearing my seat belt, then I am fully aware that I'm in my car and not wearing a seat belt! It is so frustrating to spend tens of thousands of dollars on something that is specifically designed to annoy you.
And yes, I agree... wear your fucking seat belt! But, sometimes I'm just driving to the end of my driveway and will never get above 5 mph.
But then the idiots who buy there devices would use the setting when not needed, some would inevitably die, and they would sue the car makers for letting them turn off an obviously necessary safety device. At least with these things, it shows you're disabling the safety device and so you're on the hook when you end your journey flying through a sheet of glass and into traffic at 40 miles an hour.
This isn't true. There are several car companies that let you disable the alert and they aren't getting sued. The problem is that not every car company gives you the option to do so.
My father used to do this until I annoyed him the fuck out...or because the state gave him a large enough fine for him to realise seatbelts weren't actually that uncomfortable.
imagine public transportation being an option. america is insanely car dependent
Wow.
What's punisher and what's the politics about it?
Punisher is a comic book character named Frank Castle. He's an anti-hero who targets and kills criminals, but especially corrupt cops (the worst type of criminals). Right wingers, and cops, have co-opted his logo (the Skull) because Punisher is a badass and they think it makes them look like badasses. They either aren't aware that he hates cops, and most things right wingers like, or they just aren't self-aware enough to realize that Frank would likely beat the shit out of them if he saw them using his skull.
Thus is covered in the Daredevil show that came out a few months ago. It was pretty good.
