The percentage of U.S. adults who say they consume alcohol has fallen to 54%, the lowest by one percentage point in Gallup’s nearly 90-year trend. This coincides with a growing belief among Americans that moderate alcohol consumption is bad for one’s health, now the majority view for the first time.

It is bad for you, depending on how "moderate consumption" is defined. And it's not solely the alcohol that's the problem. Drinking is straight empty calories. I like to have a few drinks occasionally but I've known people who put away a six pack every night and then are somehow confused about why they're overweight and borderline diabetic. If you drank that many soft drinks a day, you'd basically wind up in the same position.

Yea, those damn empty calories frustrate me to no end. Alcohol is even worse, as there are some knock-on effects that mess with metabolism.

I'd really enjoy wine or a mixed drink more often, but dammit I'd like to not get fat(er).
