I mean, obviously.

Conan and Stewart have already pivoted to podcasts.

Doing a nightly show on broadcast TV with huge production values just isn't profitable. That's why Colbert's contract didn't get renewed. Even with the best ratings of Late Night, it's not making money.

It's a huge commitment for the Host, they can't really do anything else. But a podcast (especially if you're doing it yourself) is very flexible.

It's like how FM "morning shows" used to be this huge thing everyone in the city listened to, until it wasn't.

At least FM radio has the audience of people who can’t be arsed to connect their music player on the drive to work.

I know they exist because I’m one of them

And Late Night still has people who watch the next day in streaming...

But it's not enough to afford Colbert when the schedule means he can't really do anything else.

True, I do that too. Although they don’t get money from me.

Listening to FM radio stations with the required Trump praise every hour is surreal. Kristi Noem, every hour on the hour ranting about evil immigrants. Thanks Audacy Corp.

Oh. I’m Canadian, I didn’t realize that’s a thing. Wow.

In my province we do get the generic “conservatives love you. Liberals try to make you a gay trans disabled lesbian with blue hair” ads from our provincial government. 🙄
