In the beginning of the 20th century the global population of the Eurasian Beaver was estimated to be 1200 individuals. Thanks to conservation efforts, the global population in 2006 was 639000 (infosec.pub)

Data from a couple decades ago is fine, but it's worth noting that as of this seemingly comprehensive evaluation from five years ago, the European population surpassed 1.2 million.
