Now that Voyager supports PieFed, when promoting the Fediverse on Reddit I will be using this going forward

Try out the decentralised Reddit alternative called PieFed, https://piefed.social/
It also has a mobile app: https://vger.app/settings/install

I use it alongside Reddit, and I'm enjoying it more and more, slowly switching over

Some of the biggest complaints people switching over have are

  • Not sure which server to choose
  • No onboarding
  • Too much politics
  • Trouble logging in
  • Bad UX/UI (for a lot of people)

PieFed solves all of this, it has good onboarding, login is real easy you can even login with google, during onboarding you can filter out trump/musk spam, UX/UI is lightyears better for your average user, it has de-duplication etc.

I believe the Fediverse needs an automated way for the sign up process, something users don't have to think excessively about. I don't believe that just recommending the flagship instance is enough to foster adoption. The same behavior Nextcloud proposes could be useful: https://nextcloud.com/sign-up/

It means to have list of trusted instances, and therefore defining the collective criteria for deciding when an instance can be classified as trusted. I guess the Fediverse community can find a common understanding, as was done for the Fedipact
