We had both of our kids at home with a midwife (and nurse). But we live in a suburb and within a few miles of two hospitals. Had anything gone wrong, it would have taken mere minutes to escalate to a higher level of care.

One of those hospitals has a dedicated birthing center that includes birthing pools, if that's what you want. We probably would have gone to that hospital if we didn't live so close. If you truly want the best for your newborn, you don't take chances.
