I remember reading the post being referenced, not too long ago. To keep it short:

  1. Never store things exclusively in someone else's computer. Have at least one local copy.
  2. If you can't have at least one local copy, ask yourself why. Odds are you're trying to back up a lot of unnecessary junk, alongside what matters.
  3. Some data might be important enough to warrant multiple backups. Think on the grounds of costs: backing it up vs. losing it, as well as the odds of the later happening.
