The same hope that kept us alive as a species through genetic bottlenecks. You have given up, stop dragging those who haven't broken down with us.

New kids are going to be born no matter how bad or good the world gets. Help your kids become good people and they can improve the world with you. Muck it up and they can contribute to a worse experience.

Either when, when in doubt: don't have kids, imo. You need to still really want it after getting an idea of how bad it can go (talk to parents).
