micromobility - Bikes, scooters, boards: Whatever floats your goat, this is micromobility
Ebikes, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, longboards, eboards, motorcycles, skates, unicycles, heelies, or an office chair: Whatever floats your goat, this is all things micromobility!
"Transportation using lightweight vehicles such as bicycles or scooters, especially electric ones that may be borrowed as part of a self-service rental program in which people rent vehicles for short-term use within a town or city.
micromobility is seen as a potential solution to moving people more efficiently around cities"

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

But do you think your car a should only be able to go the maximum speedlimit when you're putting the pedal to the medal?
I'd assume no.
So why the double standard?
Because way less regulation and drunken irresponsible young people, probably...
A car is actually designed to handle road conditions, maneuver and brake at 100mph. These scooters are just big motors with no other safety mechanisms. There is basically no way to make this safe on the road with this form factor, which is why this is a novelty product being sold to wealthy F1 fans, likely with a mountain of liability paperwork.
Well, 100mph is really pushing it, sure, but honestly, the brakes are really fucking good and the mass is low. I've driven loads of motorcycles and these scooters, and whilst some or them are insanely hazardous, some of them are sturdy, well balanced and have brakes equal to motorcycles.
So as long as you protect yourself, have a helmet, I really don't see a massive difference to motorcycles.
A motorcycle has a solid 6-8" of suspension travel on top of 4" of tire so you don't go flying over the bars if someone leaves a sharpie marker in the road.
True enough, but I think you'd be surprised at how agile and stable some of those larger scoots are.
I had one with like 8" wheels and a seat and I was fucking terrified to drive the thing even when it went like 25-30km/h, especially on slightly cracked asphalt. On the opposite hand, I also had one with much larger tires, like 10-12", and I had absolutely no fear riding it some 60km/h, even on a sandy road. I'd of course slow down for corners and whatnot, but in general.
Scoots achieve much of the suspension but having it be much more diagonal than in bikes. In streetbikes, the suspension is almost vertical, whereas in a lot of the larger scoots, it's like at a 45 degree angle or more, to achieve suspension length without undue addition of height to the stepping board.
But agai, the point really is that cars can go much faster than they're usually used at, and I'm sure people would fucking hate having cars which had the max speed of like 85 mph.
Even comparing it to a motorcycle, I feel more sketched out by the scooter, just simply because, how effective could any brakes attached to those little wheels possibly be?
Well breaking power is proportional to mass, and seeing as the vehicle weighs perhaps quarter at most of a motorcycle (~50kg, which is on the higher end, but would be along the lines of the weight of these faster scoots, against ~200kg), it would depend a lot more on your personal mass.
It's not going to be a problem to stop the scooter, but if you're on the heavier side and have to lean on the bars and put your own weight on it, it's going to affect the breaking power. A 50kg kid will have a much easier time stopping than a 120kg unit of a man.
There's also mass distribution to consider, how much more likely is a scooter with a 2 or 3 foot wheelbase going to dump the rider on his nose than a motorcycle with a 6 foot wheelbase?
That probably depends on how fast you ride it and how skilled the rider is and what ground you're riding it on.
The double standard is because I felt invincible then, now I throw my knee out getting off the toilet.
Yeah, but like, why would the vehicle need to structurally be limited to speed if you have no wish of driving above that speed anyway?
My point is that we allow cars to go much faster than the speed limit. Why not scooters? But also,I acknowledge the reality, which is they're unregulated and mostly driven by non-sober young-ish people. And plenty of crashes happen. (I've been in several myself, albeit I wouldn't count myself among the young per se.)
If you want to ride your e-scooter at 100mph go for it, I do not give 2 shits. As I said in my initial post, I do not want to go that fast because I already feel when I am going 15mph it is too fast.
If you want to argue about regulation go for it, but that was not what my comment was about, it was about my personal feelings regarding myself.
If you owned a Bugatti Chiron, would you drive it at 300 mph? Because that's how fast it goes.
When's the last time you drove your car as fast as it goes?
So should we ban all cars which can exceed speed limits? Or like... could we rely on people just not using the full power at their disposal, and obeying a speed limit?
Idk, seems to me it's more or less worked for cars so...
Dont be a dolt. People with cars like that take them on closed tracks and indeed may go all the way to top speed.
Yeah. You can take them on a course and you can drive them at top speed.
That wasn't the question. The question was how often do you actually use the top speed on an average vehicle? The answer is "practically never".
Yet you're pretending like the same doesn't apply for scooters and people would be blazing 100mph all the time if the scooter has a top speed of 100mph.
You're perfectly fine having several ton weighing machines which can do like 120-300mph on the roads and trust that people will behave with them, but something that's 40 times lighter and has at most double the top speed somehow can't be driven responsibly?
"Don't be a dolt."
I am pretending no such thing, as I am not who you were arguing with, you churlish jackass. Now begone, Ive blocked you and your nonsense.
You're defending his argument, while refusing to answer my very simple "why would you drive a scooter at 100% speed all the time when you do that with literally no other vehicle, be it a car or a push bike?"
So yeah. Stop being a "churlish dolt"
