He says the key to keeping a car running for a long time is to do regular maintenance such as oil changes and lubrication, and to undercoat the vehicle.

Nice!

Over the years, nearly everything on the vehicle has been replaced or repaired, and Campbell says the only original part is likely the body, and even that has had work done on it.

Oh. 🤨

It's salty here in Nova Scotia. Even in summer. Everything rusts and degrades. This isn't surprising. There are million mile Toyota's out there that are all original but I doubt you'd find one in NS.

As an Ontario mechanic, I hate working on NS cars. They are significantly rustier than ours.

[–] dankm@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Whoa? Worse than Ontario? Here the stereotype is BC and ON cars are rusty.

Ontario is bad, especially eastern Ontario. NS is worse. Cars from BC look brand new in comparison.

Agreed. Lived in BC for years on the island. I'm from NS and now back here. It's crazy and doesn't apply to just cars either. Everything falls apart here.

The only thing that's still original is the odometer.

Nah, that broke at 873,019 km so they found a new one and set it to the current state! (Jk)

My partner’s car used to be my dad’s… it’s got almost 500k KM on it and has had nothing replaced. The only thing wrong is the highest blower setting for AC or heat doesn’t work and it’s slowly leaking coolant now.
