The UK is not a hot climate, and in general bugs are not a problem (exceptions apply, looking at you scotland).
I was vacationing in the Newcastle area nearish to Scotland for the most part, and I certainly didn’t notice mosquitos like we have in Canada, but even just random spiders and flies and stuff were constantly coming inside with open windows.
It’s not the end of the world, but neither is installing a screen, it just seemed strange how universally uncommon they were. Like I figured that at least some people would still hate bugs enough to install them.
Not mosquitos but midge's, think smaller and less deadly, but swarms
Downside of those screens is that they let very little air through, kind of defeating the point of opening the window
What? We have them on all doors/windows in our apartment (in Europe) and they very much do not block any air.
I just had a 'I can't breathe in these masks' flashback, what the hell are they on about, lol
I mean, they do objectively reduce airflow somewhat compared to no screen. It's not a big deal, but it's also impossible for them not to.
Okay but I know the UK has rodents. If I left my grond floor windows open we'd get mice inside.
I've never heard of mice just randomly climbing in through windows ngl. (We also don't have screens)
